Crisis Lines

Mind

The charity was started during the year of 1946 and one of its key achievements was celebrating seventy years of service in 2016. The website features information that can be a source of guidance for us including stories we can strongly relate to. The President of Mind is none other than the lovely Stephen Fry.

Samaritans

Samaritans was created by Chad Varah, during 1953, in the city of London. Over the course of his career Chad Varah was a source of counsel for those who attended his local parish church. However, Varah grew restless as he wanted to help more people. On the 2nd of November 1953, Varah took his very first phone call, from someone who really needed to talk. This was the paving stone that set in motion the Samaritans charity, which has 20,000 people in its service to help people going through dark periods in their lives.

Other helpline and listening services

Saneline

This is for someone whom is going through a mental health condition, or there for those supporting their friends/relatives going through a period of mental ill health.

National Suicide Prevention Line UK

 This service, is there for individuals whom  are experiencing thoughts of suicide.

Campaign About Living Miserably (CALM)

This charity is perfect for those going through a low period in their lives who may need to talk. If you feel unable to talk, there is a web-chat service on offer. However you choose to contact them, there will be someone to listen.

Night Line

Night Line is a very efficient means for students struggling with their mental health who may need someone to talk to they can trust. The Night Line website will inform you if your school or university has this service on-site. On a side note, it is worth mentioning that those on the end of the phone are also students, which means there will be a commonality.


Shout

This is another non-verbal listening service available for those who are unable to talk, but need someone to contact. To have access to this service, simply text SHOUT to the number 85258. This is also a 24/7 line.

Switchboard

Switchboard is a charity that provides support if you identify as either; gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. 


Phone Number: 0300330060; all staff operating  the phones also identify as LGBT.


Opening Hours: 10:00-22:00; 365 days a year
