Proactive Care- An opportunity for our RPs with experience of being an inpatient.

We are currently looking for Recovery Partners who may have had experience of certain restrictive practices whilst being an inpatient. This would include being on a locked ward, having personal effects confiscated or may have been the subject of physical restraint. We understand that this can be quite a sensitive subject, and therefore may be too difficult for some people, however this is potentially an opportunity to bring about positive change in this area.

If you are interested, we would like, initially, to invite you to a meeting of the Proactive Care Steering group on 9th May in Bridgwater and following that you will be involved in co-producing the training they offer if this is something you feel you would like to do. If you are interested in becoming involved with this project, please contact our ST&R Worker, Lou Flower on: Louise.Flower@SomersetFT.nhs.uk or EbERecoveryPartners@SomersetFT.nhs.uk

New Service Model Inpatient and Urgent Care Consultation Group

As you may have seen in the recent Recovery Partner bulletin, major changes are being planned for how Inpatient and Urgent Mental Health Services (for example, Crisis Team and First Response Services) are being delivered; a new service model is being developed.

The group will be conducted through a series of MS teams meetings over the next few months. If you are interested in becoming involved with this project, please contact our ST&R Worker, Danielle Treleaven on Danielle.Treleaven@SomersetFT.nhs.uk OR EbERecoveryPartners@SomersetFT.nhs.uk Date and times: to be determined. We can offer remuneration for your time at £12 per hour for your involvement in the project.

Severe Mental Illness Assignment

An opportunity to work with Jane Yeandle. This assignment will give recovery partners the chance to analyse current approaches to both the assessing and the treatment of individuals living with severe mental health conditions.

Core Skills and Knowledge Workshops

Carried out by Claire Munt- Head of Community Mental Health Services and Learning Disabilities Service Group. These workshops further build the current foundations of CMHS inductions and to aid us in compiling together a range of core skills and knowledge workshops.

Sensory Awareness and Sensory Strategies Workbook

As the name suggests this exciting assignment opportunity to become part of a team to put together a workbook on sensory strategies. The main aim of this workbook is for it to be accessible for everyone. EBEs' input is also important for this project so that we can; know what is important and helpful to put in this resource. EBEs' from across services would be so important with this focus group so that multiple ideas to be formed.

*The start date of this will be determined once a focus group has been put together.*

STOP Intervention Research Study

This will be led by Adrian Hayes- Consultant Medical Psychotherapist. This is the perfect opportunity to apply your lived in experience.

Just to give you some background information STOP is an intervention programme that primarily supports individuals living with paranoia.

Anyone one of us can go through this. The project itself works via an app and walks you through scenarios- these scenarios were put together by EBEs' with lived experience.

We need three groups of individuals. Two out of these three groups will be forming the intervention and the other group will form the control group.

Those wishing to participate we kindly ask:

  • that you haven't changed your medication within the last three months.
  • are not going through the process of therapy.
  • you will need to be over the age of eighteen.
  • that you are not under the influence of any substances.

This us looking after you and ensuring that this project does not trigger you in any way.

How we can reduce restrictive practises on mental health wards

We are looking for a recovery partner whom has lived in experience of being an inpatient within a mental health service. Being part of this project would entail discussions surrounding; locked doors, personal effects being confiscated- located in a safe location and other methods of physical restraint.

If this is something that you would like to be part of the please reach to our ST& R worker Louise Flower:LouiseFlower@SomersetFT.nhs.uk or the email address provided above.
